South Korea State Visit – November 2023

South Korea State Visit
21st to 23rd November 2023

The second State Visit of King Charles III reign took place in London when the President of South Korea, Yoon Suk Yeol and the first lady Kim Keon-hee, were greeted on Horse Guards Parade by His Majesty & Queen Camilla.

The official welcome was the start of a three-day State Visit aimed at strengthening relationships between South Korea and the UK.  The emphasis was on Trade, Technology & Defence. It also coincided with the 70th anniversary of the end of The Korean War when an Armistice agreement was signed; ending three years of fighting.

The Flag Consultancy’s team of specialist engineers were tasked with flying the full set of ceremonial flags along The Mall, with the addition of 25 South Korean flags specially manufactured for the visit. Additionally, 48 Union Trophy flags were flying proudly on QVM outside Buckingham Place.

The 56 Commonwealth Country flags were flown along Horse Guard Road, where the Royal procession entered and exited Horse Guards Parade on their way back down The Mall to Buckingham Palace for a State Banquet.

We installed a further 21 temporary flagpoles around the perimeter of Parliament Square Gardens to fly the flags of the Oversea Territories and Crown Dependencies.

Our client commented:

“On behalf of DCMS, I would like to express our thanks and appreciation for the part The Flag Consultancy played in ensuring that preparations for the South Korean State Visit were completed successfully.

I know the high winds proved to be a particular challenge for the flag installations and we are grateful for your commitment in ensuring that all of the flags across the ceremonial footprint were installed in time for the visit.

The South Korean and Union flags flying alongside each other on The Mall looked spectacular and was the perfect backdrop for the Golden Carriage journey by HM The King and The President of South Korea.

Please pass on our special thanks to everybody who was involved.”
